A number of explosive devices were seized by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) in Holbrook after a report of a man with a bag of explosives in his possession. At 3:09 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9, a Holbrook Police Officer responded to Motel 66, located at 2105 Navajo Blvd., following a report of a subject making pipe bombs. The officer located the suspect, Brian Talmadge, 66, at the nearby McDonald’s who informed him that his belongings were at a residence at 309 Mission Lane. The officer took Talmadge to the residence, which was vacant and located a crate with a red bag that revealed a number of explosives inside.

The officer moved both himself and Talmadge from the area, cordoned off the area and contacted the DPS Explosives Ordinance Disposal Unit in Tucson, which responded and retrieved the items. Talmadge told the officer that the explosives were on a property that he had purchased and later sold in Sun Valley and that he did not really know what they were. No charges were made in the incident.
