At the recent school board meeting, Athletic Director Ricky Greer introduced a new uniform ordering rotation for the district’s athletic programs. This system is designed to streamline the process of purchasing new uniforms and ensure that all sports teams receive updated gear on a consistent schedule. The rotation will repeat every three years, providing a structured plan for uniform replacements.

The plan was developed based on the information gathered from teams that ordered uniforms during the 2023-2024 school year. Remaining programs were then grouped in a way that balances the traditional costs of their uniforms, helping to maximize the athletic budget from year to year. Greer emphasized that this careful grouping would make the process more efficient while ensuring equitable distribution of resources across all sports.

Starting with the 2024-2025 school year, certain teams will receive new uniforms each year based on the established rotation. For the 2024-2025 school year, the teams set to receive new uniforms include football, dance, boys’ swim, girls’ swim, boys wrestling, and girls wrestling.

In the 2025-2026 school year, the focus will shift to boys and girls cross country, cheer, boys basketball, girls basketball, and baseball. Finally, the 2026-2027 school year will include boys soccer, girls soccer, volleyball, softball and boys and girls track. After that school year the cycle restarts, which means if a student is on a team for all four years of high school at some point, they will get new jerseys to wear.

During the meeting the board also passed some largely administrative items such as approving past meetings’ minutes, approving the ratification list and hired Daniel Bewley as a substitute teacher, Delora Agoodie as a paraprofessional and extra-duty pay for wrestling coach Alaya Candelaria.

The board also approved some student fundraisers including Winslow High School (WHS) Sports Medicine selling Halloween grams, WHS boys basketball selling items at their alumni game vs Holbrook and two Halloween fundraisers for the Winslow Junior High School student council.

Finally, the board also approved Paraprofessional Megan Sundwall’s resignation and Arthur Brito and Quentin Begody Sr. to be wrestling volunteers and Karsyn Ellis and Brittany Mayer as spiritline volunteers.

The next meeting of the WUSD school board will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6, in the meeting room, located at 800 N. Apache Ave.
