Returning to the comforts of the 2A Little Colorado Region play, Holbrook picked up their first win of the season in impressive fashion on Friday night with a 60-0 shutout road win in Sanders. Valley Sanders Pirates had no answers for Holbrook’s offense or defense, with the Roadrunners getting scoring from both sides of the ball.

Darren Justman completed 11 of his 15 passes for a total of 158 yards, with a pair of touchdowns and no interceptions. His favorite target was once again Simeon Shaw, who caught both touchdowns as part of his six catch 112-yard night. William Kinds caught three short passes, and Daniel John had two receptions totaling 31 yards.

Holbrook’s rushing attack was led by Manny Rico, who picked up 111 yards on 10 totes, finding the end zone once. Justman carried it five times for 76 yards and one score.

With the offense scoring four times, the defense forced the Pirates into four turnovers, scoring on three of the four. Justman had a pick-6, and Christian Lerma and Levi Autobee each returned a Pirate’s fumble for a score as well.

Holbrook dominated this game from the start and Roadrunner fans should expect nothing different over the course of the next six weeks.

The rest of the region had a combined record of 5-13 in non-region games through the first three weeks. Pinon is still unbeaten and accounts for three of those five wins. Only Tuba City and Many Farms won a non-region game this year. Holbrook’s game with Pinon will be on the Eagle’s field later in October and will more than likely determine which region team makes the state tournament.

This week Holbrook will host Many Farms. That game was originally scheduled to be played in Many Farms, but due to their field being unplayable, the game will be at Roadrunner Stadium. The Lobos are 1-3 on the season. After winning their initial game of the year against Rough Rock, the team has since been outscored 139-6 in the last three weeks which includes Friday’s 44-0 shutout loss to Pinon. They will have a tough time adding to those six points this week in what should be an easy win for Holbrook.

Holbrook is now 1-3 on the season.
