Veronica James, the health benefits advocate for North Country Healthcare, presented at July’s Good Morning Winslow event last week to discuss exciting new developments for the clinics. James highlighted virtual visits, which can be extremely helpful in rural areas if patients can get some assistance without having to possibly travel more than a hundred miles roundtrip to a clinic.
She spoke about one of the services she offers virtually, which is helping people for SNAP nutrition assistance. “We can even help you fill out your application over the phone or over Zoom,” she said. She notes that this is different from other agencies like the Department of Economic Security, which require people to show up in person to get assistance with applications. In addition to virtual visits, James announced the expansion of the facilities in Winslow, located behind Safeway. “The facilities have doubled,” said James. While construction was delayed, the grand opening is scheduled at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 22.
James also introduced Briana Kewanwytewa, the new clinic manager for both the Winslow and Holbrook clinics.
James highlighted various services offered by North Country HealthCare, in addition to the virtual visits and facility expansions she discussed. The clinic provides behavioral health support, including counseling for stress, anxiety and depression, as well as assistance with health conditions such as diabetes management and smoking cessation. These services are accessible through telemedicine or directly at their facilities.
Dental services are available for patients of all ages, covering both preventive measures like exams and cleanings, and restorative treatments including fillings and crowns. These are offered at the Flagstaff, Williams and Winslow locations. Primary care and family medicine are also key components of the services, offering care across all life stages from prevention and diagnosis to management of chronic conditions. Pediatric services provided by board-certified pediatricians cover a range from newborn care to adolescent health, addressing common conditions such as allergies, asthma, and ADHD. Patients can access these services at any of the 11 community locations across northern Arizona.
Physical therapy is available at the Williams and Grand Canyon locations, focusing on movement disorders and overall physical rehabilitation. Women’s health services are comprehensive, offering care for all stages of life, including reproductive health and menopausal support, provided by obstetricians/gynecologists and certified nurse midwives, with those services offered in the Flagstaff, Payson and Bullhead City clinics.
With expanding facilities and offerings this leaves the area with that much greater access to care.
