The Holbrook City Council held its regular meeting Wednesday, during which the council welcomed its new City Manager Sharon Jakubowski Wolz.
“I’m so happy to be here,” stated Jakubowski Wolz, “I look forward to working with all of you, moving Holbrook forward. I know you’ve got a lot of goals and objectives and great vision.” She stated that she received a tour of the city from Finance Director Randy Sullivan and saw so much opportunity. Jakubowski Wolz will be hosting a meet and greet towards the end of August to get to know the residents and encouraged everyone, including the youth, to attend.
The council approved a permanent extension of premises/patio permit for the Empty Pocket Saloon, located at 2210 Navajo Blvd. The extension will provide more outdoor space for seating as well as yard games according to the request. Excused from the meeting were council members Arcenia Pacheco and Teri Tafoya.
Michael Nilsson Jr. presented to the board on his new newsletter, Hey Holbrook, in which he writes about local events and meetings. Nilsson is the son of Vice Mayor Mike Nilsson. One of his goals with the newsletter is to be what he called, “a consistent positive voice in Holbrook. That’s kind of a priority that I have with this newsletter.”
During the summary of current events, Mayor Kathleen Smith gave kudos to city employees, specifically calling out Sean Cassidy regarding the work done in the city parks. “I know we talked about it last week, a couple council members made a comment, but I’ve had since then, multiple, multiple citizens come up to me.” She also thanked Debbie Shumway and whoever assisted in pulling weeds on Hopi Drive. “We appreciate the patience of the citizens this past year when we’ve been under these budget constraints.”
Smith noted that the best way to get the city’s attention if citizens have any concerns, is to reach out to them directly. “Just as a reminder, you can call city hall and ask for a service request.”
