Richard V. Chavez, 87, of Oro Valley passed away peacefully on June 14, 2024, at the Southern Arizona Veterans Hospital. Born on March 3, 1937, in Winslow, Arizona, to Ysidro and Amada Chavez. Richard was a 1956 graduate of Winslow High School, an Army veteran and a proud American patriot.
Richard married Lorenza Ayala on Dec. 2, 1961, in Flagstaff. Richard worked for the United States Postal Service in Holbrook for 29 years, retired in 1992 where he served as a postal clerk, postal supervisor and the American Postal Union representative for Northern Arizona.
Spending time with family and friends was his joy. Richard’s greatest attributes were his optimism, gratefulness and ability to make anyone smile with his charm and charisma.
Richard is survived by his wife, Lorenza; children, Richard Chavez, Linda Chavez and Nora Brack (Robert); grandchildren, Hesper Chavez, Hailey Chavez-Brack and Anthony Brack; and great-grandchild Evan Ponce.
Rosary will be held at 9:15 a.m. followed by funeral Mass at 9:45 a.m. on Monday, July 8, at St. Mark Catholic Church, located at 2727 W. Tangerine Road in Oro Valley. The funeral Reception will be held at El Molinito Restaurant, located at 10180 N. Oracle Road following the Committal Service at Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Marana.
