City of Holbrook1

The economic conditions in the region are changing. To support the update of the Holbrook General Plan and address the anticipated impacts of the Cholla Power Plant closure, community visioning sessions will be held.

City leadership has been working with Arizona State University’s Just Energy Transition Center to identify opportunities and challenges, in advance of plant closure. In conjunction with ASU, the city is hosting two, three-hour sessions involving input from residents that will result in a visioning document to guide development and help secure transition funding.

The first visioning session was held last Wednesday, with the next session to be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Monday, April 8 (it was originally scheduled for March 28). Dinner will be provided, which will be served at 5:30 p.m. at the George Gardner Performing Arts Center, located at 585 N. 9th Ave., in Holbrook.

Topics for the first session include learning what the community wants to preserve and what citizens want to build for the community in the coal transitions.

Topics for session two include learning what assets the community wants to preserve and build upon, and what assets need to be developed to ensure the future of the community.

Amanda Ormond and Lauren Keeler from Arizona State University’s Just Energy Transition Center will lead discussions. Please plan to join both sessions.

RSVPs are encouraged online at bit.ly/holbrookvision. Please arrive early to check-in.
