The Lady Wildcats are the 1A state runners-up for the second time in two years. Last season they came up four points short in the title game against Rock Point. This year, they hoped to get back to the top game and achieved that goal. However, once again they came up short of the gold ball. The Lady Wildcats fell to St. David 49-39 in the championship game at Findley Toyota Center in Prescott.
Joseph City’s run to the title game was impressive. They entered the 1A State tournament as the No. 2 overall seed and dispatched Williams 66-29 in the opening round. In the quarterfinal round, they took care of No. 10 Valley Union by a final of 50-18. Their semi-final win over rival Mogollon was the most impressive. Joseph City stifled the No. 6 Mustangs, defeating them by a final score of 33-9 in the final four matchup. St. David cruised through all four rounds as well, with their closest margin of victory being 18 points until they won the title over Joseph City by 10 points.
The Wildcats finished the season with an overall record of 22-8.
