The Lady Lobos played their first five games of the season at the Inferno Tournament in Tucson prior to Thanksgiving. That was a tune-up for their season opening game at Alchesay on Tuesday of last week. The Falcons are the two-time defending state champions in 3A girls basketball, but through the first three quarters the Lady Lobos appeared to have their number.
However, down the stretch Alchesay’s pressure defense and big crowd got to the Lobos, allowing them to overcome a double-digit Snowflake lead and turn that into a 49-43 home court win.
With the loss the Lobos are now 3-3 overall on the young season, but are off to an 0-1 regular season beginning.
This Wednesday they will try and balance that mark when they host Safford. They will then have eight days off to prepare for a second home game with Round Valley on Dec. 14.
