Nonprofit blood services provider Vitalant will be hosting blood drives in the month of November. Vitalant is urging all eligible blood donors to give thanks for good health and give blood to ensure an adequate supply is available for patients. Blood donations in November are especially critical for maintaining a sufficient blood supply for patients leading up to Thanksgiving week and into December, when busy holiday schedules sharply reduce the number of available donors. Emergencies and ongoing medical treatments that require blood don’t take a holiday break.
Blood drives will be held from 1 to 6 p.m., this Thursday, Nov 9, at the Holbrook Volunteer Fire Department, located at 100 Airport Road, and 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., on Tuesday, Nov. 14, at Holbrook High School, located at 855 N. 8th Ave., in the gym lobby.
Review recently updated eligibility requirements and make an appointment to give at vitalant.org, use the Vitalant app or call 877-25-VITAL (877-258- 4825).
Donors of every blood type are critically needed, especially those with type O. O-negative is the universal blood type that can be transfused to any patient when there’s no time to match. O-positive is the most in-demand and transfused blood type. Platelet donations are also critically needed every day. About 50% of platelet donations go to help cancer patients.
