Football Winslow

On Aug. 25, the Winslow Bulldogs football team traveled to Payson to take on the bigger and deeper bench of the Longhorns.

In the first quarter the Longhorns would score on a short pass but the point after kick attempt would be blocked by Bulldog Joseph Stark. Mid-way through the second quarter the Bulldogs would get their lone touchdown of the game on an 80-yard punt return by Joseph Guerrero. Longhorns would score twice at the beginning and late in the half,

making the halftime score Payson 20, Winslow 6.

The Longhorns would get two more touchdowns in the second half, with one in each quarter. For a final score Payson 34, Winslow 6.

The Winslow Bulldogs can be proud of their defense, even if the score doesn’t reflect it as they were able to keep the game from a running time clock and stopping many of Payson’s drives, forcing them to punt. The key defensive players of the game for the Bulldogs were Guillermo “Memo” Clark, Ty DeSpain, Guerrero and Stark.

The Bulldogs will travel to Holbrook to face the Roadrunners at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 2.
