The Holbrook Chamber of Commerce elected new board members beginning this month including Paul Ortega of Ortega’s West End Liquor, Christen Iguado, Tara Espitia of TK Nail Candy, Pedro Tafoya of Studio 66 LLC, Nicole Young of Shirt Monkey and Roxy Theater, and Marcus Espitia of The Healing Quartz Company. These members will serve a two-year term, which began July 1. They joined current members Janet Dean of Arizona Public Service, Tyreta Brown of Holbrook Summer Dance Group, Lori Romo of Romo’s Mexican Grill, Lonna Young of Community Bridges Inc., Jennifer Basaldua of Preserve Arizona and Daniella Day of Peak Residential Lending.
According to information provided by Chamber Director Cindy Tafoya, the new board will be reviewing the proposed 2023 strategic plan before they vote to approve it this month. The newly elected board members will have a new board orientation on July 17, and the first board meeting for this fiscal year will be on July 19.
The proposed goals are to continue to build upon the previous plan’s goals, such as helping businesses maintain and grow, as well as supporting local tourism efforts. A new proposed goal on this year’s strategic plan is capacity building within the board and for the director. The chamber has achieved much in the past few years and understands the importance of maintaining that growth and to develop it further through board and director training and education.
According to Tafoya, the strategic planning committee believes building up the board and director will strengthen the chamber which will in turn be passed on to the Holbrook community through benefits, advocacy, services and events. It will also help to allow the board to better support the part-time paid position of the director, with greater understanding of their role. Tafoya added that once she leaves her position, which she has no plans to as of yet, this will provide a good capacity building plan to help develop and guide the individual(s) who may apply to fill the position.
Upcoming events that will be hosted by the Chamber include the Chamber Business Break on July 13 and the Entrepreneurship Series beginning on July 25. On Aug. 5 the chamber will be hosting the Hello Holbrook Showcase and more Entrepreneurship Series classes on Aug. 8 and 22. On Oct. 12, another Chamber Business Break is planned.
