Holbrook played just once last week, with their scheduled game at Monument Valley on Saturday postponed due to weather in Kayenta. That left their home game with Round Valley on Wednesday as their only action of the week.
Neither team was able to score until the third where they matched each other with two runs. The Elks edged in front in the fourth inning with a single run. They opened the game up in the fifth where the visitors were able to score six runs, building a 9-2 lead. Holbrook answered with just one run in the bottom of the fifth. Neither team was able to score across the final two innings leaving Holbrook on the wrong side of a 9-3 final outcome.
Round Valley pounded out five extra-base hits in the win. Their pitcher Allyson Muth held Holbrook to just three hits in the game while striking out six Roadrunner batters and walked none. Natalie Patterson’s home run was about the only highlight for Holbrook in the loss.
Holbrook will have hosted an unbeaten Joseph City team on Monday prior to having the rest of the week off for Spring Break. They will return to action on Tuesday when they open east region play at home when Blue Ridge comes to town. Holbrook will travel to Show Low the following day.
Holbrook is currently 3-4 on the season.
