With the beginning of their basketball schedule backloaded over the first couple weeks of the regular season, the Lobos have had to play catch up in the week prior to the Christmas break. They accomplished that by playing four games over a six-day time frame.
The Lobos defeated Round Valley on Dec. 15 and took care of Ganado on the 17th. Two weeks ago, they opened east region play with a 52-32 home-court win over Winslow. Snowflake controlled the game from the outset and turned a 15-point halftime lead into the 20-point final margin.
Playing at home once again the following night they defeated visiting Tuba City 56-47. The Lobos led by seven points after the first period and extended that lead to 17 at the half.
Tuba rallied in the second half, outscoring Snowflake by 12 in the period to pull within five going into the final quarter. In the fourth, Coach Joe Clare’s team was able to fend off the Warrior attack and win the game by nine points.
Snowflake had the Lobos 5-1 in regular-season power point contests. They played in the Epic Tourney New Years’ tournament held Dec. 28-30, where they will go up against Tonapa Valley and their second bracket game will be vs either Window Rock or Florence.
Snowflake resumes regular season play on Jan. 5 with a trip to Pima. Following that, they will host St. David on Jan. 7 then return to east region play with their second matchup with Winslow.
