The Navajo County Community College Governing Board convened Oct. 18, during which Director of Construction David Huish updated them on the Show Low Skills Center, which has slowed construction slightly due to the declining weather. “They are continuing to move forward inside the building more than they are on the outside because of the weather,” Huish said.
As for Winslow’s one-stop-shop front office project, Huish stated that they had met with the contractors who plan to start building at the end of the month. “They plan to start the work for that on the 28th this month, which is Monday, and they still say that they’ll have it done before Christmas. So, a 30-day project.”
Director of Enrollment Management Frank Orona provided an enrollment report, which has shown a steady decline of 29% over the past decade for enrollment. “So, we’ve got some work to do.”
Orona discussed the Strategic Enrollment Management (SEM) Plan, which includes an Enrollment Management Team. Orona outlined the objectives and tasks of the project, as well as enrollment goals.
NPC Friends and Family Director Betsyann Wilson gave an update on applications received for Spring 2023, which closed for admission Thursday, Nov. 17. Wilson will provide a full report on application and awards at the January board meeting.
The board received a report on the financial position of the college from July 1, 2021 to Sept. 30, 2022, as well as reports from NPC Student Government Association (SGA), NPC Facility Association, Classified and Administrative Staff Organization (CASO) and Human Resources.
The board also received an update on Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) as well as a report from President Chato Hazelbaker.
The board awarded Emeritus status to Gail Campbell, who will retire from Northland Pioneer College (NPC) in January 2023 after working 10 years as Associate Dean of the College and Career Preparedness Division.
NPC Friends and Family Director Betsyann Wilson gave praise to Campbell, listing her many accolades and efforts within the college. “More than anything, Gil truly understands the challenges that are faced by students and potential students,” Wilson stated, “She will be missed deeply and although we will certainly find another person to fill over position, nobody will ever fill her boots.”
