The Winslow Chamber of Commerce presents Good Morning Winslow, the first Wednesday of each month. This month, the host for the morning was the Winslow Arts Council.

Monique Chavez, arts council president outlined some upcoming projects as well as gave an update on the ongoing Art Car Experience that the council kickstarted.

Chavez said, “The Art Cars that we did when HGTV (Home and Garden Television) was here are still holding up against the elements and looking great. We have a couple of more in the works right now including a partnership with the Winslow Rotary Club and the First Baptist Church who are both looking to do their own car. We are also looking to do an Art Tractor, which will be a fun and interesting addition.”

The Arts Council is also planning to attend the Halloween Parade in the Park at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28 in the Hayden Walton Sports Complex, located on Maple Street. Chavez said, “The Arts Council really loves this event and we always have a pretty elaborate booth space set up. This year it will include a whole lot of fog and other fun things for the entire family to enjoy.”

In November, the council will participate in the 75th annual Winslow Christmas Parade and will begin their Christmas Lights Contest on Monday, Nov. 28.

She explained, “We will run our annual contest until right after Christmas. Everyone is encouraged to decorate their home or business. Neighbors can then call the Recreation Department at 928-289-5714 to nominate their favorites to win. We award cash prizes for first, second and third places. It is a fun way to get the community involved and bring out the Christmas spirit.”

The Arts Council is also excited to bring back their annual events in the spring including, “Art in the Park,” in April and the Blues Festival in early August.

Also mentioned during Good Morning Winslow was the Downtown Winslow Fictional Ghost Tour from the Old Trails Museum and the Winslow Library.

The walking tour will take visitors through the downtown area and share stories via QR code on their mobile devices. As the pamphlet for the event states, “Most of the information in these stories is loosely based on local events. The stories have been tweaked and given a paranormal twist.”

The tour is currently available and maps containing the QR codes are available at the Old Trails Museum, located at 212 N. Kinsley Ave. or the Winslow Library, located at 420 W. Gilmore St.

Chamber CEO Bob Hall also gave an update on the proposed Railroad Museum that is planned to be built next to the Chamber of Commerce, located at 523 W. Second St.

Hall asked for Winslow residents to contribute Winslow specific railroad and Route 66 memorabilia to display in the museum.

Finally, Hall reminded the attendees of the tree lighting ceremony set to take place on the evening of Saturday, Nov. 19 in the Route 66 Plaza.

He said, “Thanks to the City of Winslow, APS (Arizona Public Service), the Chamber and Walmart, we will have a huge 28 foot tree to light up for our Christmas season. We will have a community choir and hot chocolate that evening for all to enjoy, as we kickoff our Christmas time here in Winslow.”

The next Good Morning Winslow will be held at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at the Chamber of Commerce building.
