Obit Gill Louis

Louis Carter Gill was born on July 2, 1936 in Glenwood, Ark., to Elmer and Lenora Adams Gill. He entered eternal life at High Gate Senior Living on Sept. 5, 2022 in Flagstaff after a long hard-fought battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He enjoyed growing up with his six siblings, Hazel, Cecil, Charles, Fred, Bettie Elledge and Bernice Lopp. The family moved to Arizona when he was young. They then moved to Idaho where he attended high school and college. His favorite times during school were playing football, baseball and basketball. He returned to Arizona and hired out with the Santa Fe Railroad in April of 1960. He retired in 1998. In retirement he was happy traveling, reading and volunteering in Winslow, the town where he wanted to finish his days. His family appreciates the quiet, thoughtful, helpful, stable, strong presence he was in their lives. The precious memories he left behind will last forever. Lou was preceded in death by his parents and siblings. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joan “Jody;” his daughter, Judi; son, Monte (Roberta); three grandchildren, Jeffrey (Chelsea), Ashley, Shane (Peyton); two great-grandchildren, Jayden and Jaxon Louis; along with many loving nieces and nephews and long-time friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m., on Friday, Sept. 30, at Winslow Funeral Home, located at 1505 W. 3rd St. in Winslow.
