This month’s Good Morning Winslow event was held last week and hosted by More Than a Corner Thrift Store. Store owner Laurie Lashomb told the over 50 attendees how her shop helps the Winslow community.
She said, “We founded More Than a Corner to provide a sustainable local funding source for different needs in our community. A lot of times, there are needs but funding is hard to find, so we structured our store to be a little more flexible. In the last year, we donated to the fireworks show, the robotics team, softball, wrestling, Alice’s Place and North Country HealthCare and so many more. We figured out that we were able to donate well over $20,000 to local causes over the last year.”
More Than a Corner operates solely on donations, Lashomb explained. Community members make donations of home goods, tools, books and more and the sale of these items funds the donations the store makes each month.
She said, “We couldn’t make these contributions without those who donate to us and of course, those who buy things from us.” Lashomb concluded by noting that this month funds would benefit the Winslow High School class of 2022 Because We Care committee.”
The store is open 12 noon until 4:30 p.m., Wednesday through Friday, and from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., on Saturday, and is located at 401 W. Third St. Donations are accepted during those times as well. More Than a Corner Thrift does not take clothing, baby or bedding items but will pick up any household items they are able.
