The Navajo County Community College Governing Board convened Jan. 18, with NPC Friends and Family Director Betsyann Wilson reporting on the recent donations and scholarship awards. “We awarded a total of $49,880 for the spring semester,” stated Wilson. “With the $40,400 awarded in the fall semester for academic year 2021-2022, we have thus far awarded $90,280 so this is our biggest scholarship year yet.”
Wilson added that next semester NPC Friends and Family will have 20 AndyVon transportation grants available. NPC Friends and Family also received a little over $73,000 in donations since their holiday newsletter went out.
“One of those was a single $70,000 donation from some friends of Pres Winslow’s who have supported us so generously in the last couple of years.” Wilson explained that the donation had no restrictions and will go into the endowment fund.
Wilson also stated that a new scholarship will be opening this month called the Marsha and Louie Smith Memorial Arts Scholarship. “This is kind of a stand-alone scholarship that was funded by the late Mr. Louie Smith in memory of his wife Marsha who was an adjunct faculty at the college.”
The scholarship provides $3,000 for the 2022-2023 academic year for academically and artistically motivated students. Students do not need to be art majors but are required to submit a portfolio of their visual artwork.
