Officer arrested for juvenile sex crimes

On Wednesday, Dec. 8, Navajo County Sheriff’s deputies and detectives from the Major Crimes Apprehension Team (MCAT) arrested Thomas Burress, 30, of Winslow for three counts of sexual conduct with a minor after Navajo County Probation staff observed what appeared to be inappropriate behavior caught on camera during a review of surveillance cameras at the Navajo County Juvenile Detention Center on Sept. 28. Probation staff immediately contacted NCSO and the case was turned over to the Criminal Investigations Unit. The detectives conducted a thorough investigation which revealed crimes were committed against a 15-year-old juvenile female that was in custody by a probation employee. The employee, Burress, had resigned before the crime was detected and there was no further contact with the victim. Burress is being held at the Navajo County Jail in Holbrook on a $250,000 cash-only bond.
