John Frederick Harvey Jr. John Frederick Harvey Jr., 79, passed away on Sunday morning, April 25, 2021, at home with his family by his side. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 1, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Winslow with visitation one hour prior in the Relief Society room. He was born July 8, 1941, to John and Louise Harvey in Miami, Fla. Employment brought his parents to Arizona in 1943 ultimately ending up in Prescott where John was raised. He excelled in football, basketball, baseball and music. He graduated from Prescott High School in 1959. He attended Arizona State Teachers College in Flagstaff on a music scholarship. This is where he met Karen Jo Lowry. They were married on April 17, 1962, in the Arizona Temple in Mesa. They briefly lived in Las Vegas, and finally settled in Flagstaff where they raised their three children, Rhonda, Sandra and Daniel. John was a master mechanic of his own service station for many years. Many know him as the “grumpy” gun salesman at Ruff’s Liquor in Flagstaff. In 1996, he and Karen bought Dominique’s Hallmark and moved to Winslow. Around 2001 they bought the old “Reminder” building, relocated their store to the “corner” where it remains today. In 2007, John’s health started to decline, so they sold their store to their daughter and officially retired. They bought a boat and fifth wheel trailer and spent their retirement traveling, camping, boating and enjoying their grand-children and great-grandchildren. They have made the best of the past 15 years in spite of John’s health set-backs. He beat the odds over and over. John enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, camping and almost anything he could do outdoors. In his younger years he was quite the dancer and he also played the trumpet and the banjo. He was opinionated, loud, proud and socially unacceptable, but mostly he was a big softy who loved his family more than anything in the world and told us all that every time he had a chance. John is survived by his wife of 59 years, Karen Jo; daughters, Rhonda (Royce) Greer and Sandra (Don) Myers; son, John Daniel (Raquel) Harvey; sister, Ruth (Mike) Capen; four brothers, Curtis (Becky), Charles “Chuck”, Rick (Donise) and Dennis (Donna), Harvey; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren (and two more on the way). He will be so missed! Greer’s Mortuary handled the arrangements.
