The pandemic has caused the closure of a much-loved annual event in Navajo County. The Navajo County Fair Board announced last week that the 2020 Navajo County Fair, rodeo and demolition derby has been canceled. According to a statement by Board President Mike Sample, the board had met numerous times over the past months to decide if the fair could be modified to accommodate the need for safety in this difficult time. “We, as a board, would like nothing more than to hold the fair this year without modifications. However, our current circumstances with public health do not allow for that to happen,” noted Sample. It was also noted that the Junior Livestock show and auction, and the equine show will take place in order to provide support of Navajo County kids who worked so hard over the past year. The auction will take place on Friday, Sept. 18, and the public is encouraged to support these youth.
