According to the Arizona Department of Health Services’ daily updates on the number of COVID-19 cases in each county, Navajo County cases took a sharp jump today after a steady increase over the past week.

Since April 3, the number of cases in Navajo County have gone from 148 to 286 as of April 9. Each day the number of cases increased with an increase of 23 cases on April 4, 14 on April 5, 15 on April 6, 12 on April 7 and 18 on April 8. But April 9 reporting shows the number increased by 46 from the day before. Those numbers could be due to delayed testing results as it was noted from various sources that test results could take as long as a week to bring results. There has been a total of seven deaths reported in Navajo County related to COVID-19.

Stringent procedures are in place but people are not yet required to wear faces masks in public and although encouraged to remain at home, there is no legal repercussions for not doing so. State, county and local officials are asking residents to help their loved ones, neighbors as well as themselves by remaining at home, following proper protocol for personal protection when in public and sterilizing surfaces as needed.
