“From beginning to end, starting with the anvil and on to the parade and ending with the rodeo, fireworks and dance, we had people at the arena from start to finish,” said Tammy Gibson, secretary for the Taylor Rodeo, Inc., as she gave the Taylor Town Council an update on the Fourth of July events at the meeting on July 11.

In spite of the last-minute cancellation of the rodeo halftime show by the One-Armed Bandit, Gibson said, “The rodeo was a success. We thank the town for providing the ambulance and security as that was well needed. We are truly grateful for those that gave their time and service to carry on this Taylor tradition. Our biggest goal is to fulfill our Taylor tradition, fit the needs of the town and see where we can become bigger and better.”

Councilman Fay Hatch noted that the ticket sales closed nearly an hour earlier than at last year’s rodeo.

Mayor David Smith said that there were a number of people that came back asking for a refund, when it was found there were no more seats available. “I don’t see the gate take going much higher until we get more room for the people who come in. It’s tough to turn people away, but at 7:20 p.m. that night we pulled all the ticket takers away.”

“We can park more people, but they can’t sit anywhere,” said Hatch.

Gibson agreed, “Looking at the bleachers and grandstands that we have right now, they are daunting to replicate, but we will have an opportunity to add more seating in the future.”

Councilman Jason Brubaker said, “I liked the length of it, it didn’t go too long. It was comfortable and beautiful weather and I was impressed on how the show went on.”

Gibson went on to say there were a lot of compliments on the dance as well. “We gave folks a Fourth of July that they could celebrate. This year was definitely darn good and close to the best rodeo we have had.”
