“We are aware of many of the smell complaints. It has been an ongoing saga with the city for years now and I wanted to let you know about some proactive steps that we are taking so that we can eliminate smells from the facility entirely,” said Cassetti.

“First, we are going to do maintenance on the current smell prevention measures that already exist within the facility. At the same time, to try to mitigate odors better, we will be installing extra filtration and smell prevention. We will also be installing a fogger system that is on the outside of the facility. Anytime that the vents open to release green house air, the fogger will kick in an odor neutralizing agent.”

Casssetti noted that this involved a substantial cost up front, as well as $60-$70,000 a year to continue running it. “There is roughly a three to four week build time and we have to have an installer come out to make sure it is done correctly. We are still hammering out those details, so I just wanted to let you know that we are still being proactive. If you have any questions, please contact me at the dispensary.”

The council also heard the quarterly report from the Winslow Fire Department Chief James Hernandez. In his report, Hernandez said, “We ran a total of 55 fire calls from March until May. We had two structure fires that were both contained to one room, thanks to a timely response by your firefighters.”

The department has also attended trainings including a hazardous materials refresher course held during the most recent fire academy class. “We continue to attend trainings throughout the year. We went to a mass casualties discussion in Joseph City and will do a follow up class later this year.”

In other business, the council approved the adoption of uniform video serve applications, affidavits and licenses as required by Arizona Revised Statutes. This mandates any business providing video streaming services to a standard of maintenance, quality and pricing. The council also cancelled the July 23 Winslow City Council meeting so that the City Clerk may attend a training conference.
