On any given spring morning, one can find a non-stop crowd of people visiting Winslow’s famous “corner.” They flock to the site to have their picture taken with “Easy,” or the Glenn Frey likeness, the statues that adorn the corner. The John Pugh mural that covers the wall behind the statues is also a great draw to art enthusiasts and Eagle’s fans alike.

Taryn Clark, from Sheridan, Wyo., came through Winslow on her way to Los Angeles last week. Clark, who was traveling with her mother and teen daughter said, “We have been through the area before, but never stopped here. Which is strange, since I am a huge Eagle’s fan.”

The Eagles have helped to put Winslow on the map with their 1972 hit, “Take it Easy.” Downtown businesses have taken the theme and run with it, adding Eagle’s music and memorabilia to their inventories. The Sip Shoppe on Second Street even uses the song title as their Wi-Fi password.

Clark said, “I have been listening to the Eagles with my mom for as long as I can remember, and now my daughter enjoys them too. It is so cool to be able to go in to these shops and hear the music and buy the T-shirt!”

The road trip the ladies are taking is a graduation gift for Clark’s daughter, Madison. She said, “Madison will be going to college in Australia next year and so we won’t see each other every day, which will take some getting used to. We thought traveling together would be a fun way to spend some time together before she leaves. We are heading to L.A. to check out the sights and go to the ocean.”

Clark’s mother, Beth Miller, is also along for the ride. Miller said, “I feel very blessed to be able to share this experience with my daughter and granddaughter. My dad used to talk about driving Route 66 and the wild west, so to speak. Which is funny, since we live in Wyoming, people think we are the Wild West.”

Clark and Miller plan to make an entire trip of Route 66 next summer. Clark said, “I am thinking that going from Chicago to L.A. would be a lot of fun with my mom. It could get a little silly but we will have a good soundtrack, of course, and the sights are amazing I am sure.” Miller added, “If I get to control the radio it will be good.”

“Either way,” Clark said, “we will definitely be making another stop in Winslow. This trip, we are staying at the La Posada and we have walked up and down the downtown area. We are just about to go and have lunch at the brewery across the street. It really seems like a fun little town and we are already looking forward to coming back.”

Winslow boasts mild temperatures year around that lend to a long tourism season. The breezy spring days lead to warm sunny summers and even the fall and winter remain ideal.

According to Winslow Visitor’s Center Director Bob Hall, the season for tourists in Winslow never really ends. “We have people visit from all over the world all year long. In fact, last year and already this year, we are seeing an increase even in the colder months. Of course, September is a busy month for us. The weather is nice, and we have the Standin’ on the Corner Festival, but really, May through October is pretty busy.”
