By Linda Kor Winslow’s Christmas parade is less than two weeks away and one that is not to be missed. After 72 years, this is the largest continuous parade in northeastern Arizona and brings together over 30,000 visitors and hundreds of vendors from all over the state. The parade will take place on Saturday, Nov. 17 with the theme “Christmas Through a Child’s Eyes.” Santa Claus will be visiting on parade day and young children can meet with him to get a goodie bag and let him know what’s on their Christmas wish lists. He’ll be at the Winslow Visitor Center, located at 523 W. Second St. from 9 until 11:30 a.m. The Winslow Chamber of Commerce encourages individuals, groups and businesses to take part by creating an entry for the parade with registration with the chamber due by Nov. 13. The parade line-up will take place on Second Street and Alfred Avenue and should be ready to roll by 11 a.m. with the parade to begin at 1 p.m. The route turns north onto Third Street then east to Colorado Avenue, south for one block and then west on Second Street to the starting location. The throwing of candy or other items, or the use of party spray, spray string, poppers or other pressurized items from entries is strictly prohibited. Awards will be given to entries with the best use of materials, color and originality, quality and how well it represents the theme of the parade. No Santa Claus’ are allowed, as kids believe in one Santa and he will be at the end of the parade. For more details and an entry form, contact the Winslow Chamber of Commerce at (928) 289-2434.
