Taylor Public Works Director Jeremy Peters asked the Taylor Town Council to approve the bid from Texas Aquastore for $678,465 for a million gallon water tank. Peters said, “The first of August we advertised the bid, which was due on Sept. 15. Four bid applications were requested but only one was received back.”

Town Manager Gus Lundberg said it is typical for the tanks to cost a dollar a gallon. “This one is coming in at 68 cents a gallon and it is a glass-infused steel tank, which should last longer with the ultra violet rays we are dealing with. We have gotten three proposals on the demolition. There is lead based paint on the tank, so that is a concern. The lowest bid is $25,130. We have an $800,000 budget for this, so we will be in budget.”

Peters said the goal is to get this done before the summer water use. The council unanimously approved the award of the water storage tank construction bid to Texas Aquastore.

Lundberg announced that a public hearing would be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1, for public input on the proposed changes to the water and wastewater rates, fees and charges at the Taylor Town Council meeting on Oct. 4.

The proposed changes to the water and wastewater rates, fees and charges, if approved, will be effective Dec. 1, 2018. Documentation supporting the fee changes and additions can be obtained at the Taylor Town Hal, located at 425 Papermill Road.

Josh Rogers, director of student services with Northland Pioneer College (NPC), gave an informational update on the scholarships now available to students. Rogers encouraged the students and their parents to check out the nearly 400 scholarships that are listed on the NPC website. “Not all the scholarships are from NPC,” noted Rogers, “We encourage the students to go for scholarships; it’s worth the time to apply.”

In other business, the council:
