The 20th annual Standin’ On The Corner Festival is slated on Sept. 28 and 29 in Winslow and promises to continue the tradition of great music, food and fun. The event draws crowds from all over the world to the town made famous by the Eagles song, Take It Easy.
The 20th year of Standin’ On The Corner will feature many new musical acts as well as popular returning entertainers. Event co-master of ceremonies Tom McCauley has been the booking agent for the festival for its entirety. This year, McCauley has booked acts from many genres to entertain visitors of all ages.
Friday’s entertainment begins at 3 p.m. with surf music from local group Factory Factory, featuring Larry Beets. The David Lynn Harrison Band from Verde Valley will perform next bringing with them blues, rock and country stylings. Also, on the bill for Friday is Mogollon, a popular group returning to the festival for the first time in seven years. Mogollon is a country rock band out of Overgaard that always draws a crowd. Following Mogollon at 9 p.m. will be Power Drive.
On Saturday, doors to the event open at 9 a.m. and entertainment begins with the High Desert Dance Academy and Northland Pioneer College’s Ballet Folklorico group. Country music from singer/songwriter Cameron Byfield begins at 11 a.m. followed by a band out of Flagstaff, Black Lemon. The Broken Toys Band, Blues Hall of Famer Tommy Dukes and Eagles tribute band One of These Nights will round out entertainment on Saturday.
“The festival will have something for everyone, from the vendors to the kids’ games and bounce houses,” McCauley said. Many vendors participate in the festival. Food, crafts, souvenirs, jewelry and more will be available both days of the event. The kids’ area will include a miniature train ride and face painting. Some of the kids’ activities require an additional fee.
The festival also features a live auction lead by McCauley that is used as a fundraiser for the foundation and routinely offers donated items from local businesses for bid. The auction draws quite a crowd and begins at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
Other activities include a fire truck pull, horseshoe tournament and beer garden for those over the age of 21 with valid identification.
The festival is held at Eagle Pavilion, a venue built with funds made during the festival and various fundraisers throughout the year. Eagle Pavilion is located at the corner of West Second Street and North Campbell Avenue. This year, doors open at 3 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. on Saturday. Admission is $5, with children 12 and under admitted free.
