At the Navajo County Board of Supervisor meeting on Aug. 28, Chairman Steve Williams requested a moment of silence to honor the recent passing of United States Senator John McCain on Aug. 25, saying “Whether you agree with all of his political views or not, we can respect his service to our country.”

Supervisor Jason Whiting added that Senator McCain was always a friend to the Navajo County Board of Supervisors. “Whenever we needed help or assistance, he always had an ear to help us. I appreciate his service to this country and regret his passing.”

Whiting introduced the proclamation to be signed by Williams that was unanimously approved by the board, declaring Wednesday, Sept. 12, through Saturday, Sept. 15, to be Navajo County Fair Days.

Within the proclamation was a thank you to the volunteers who, “are contributing their time and energy to making the fair a success and urge all residents of Navajo County to take part in the festivities and join in the celebration of Navajo County’s 87th annual county fair.”

Navajo County Fair Board President Michael Sample invited the board and community to the opening ceremonies which will begin at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 12, at the Navajo County Fairgrounds in Holbrook.

Sample went on to share that Thursday night is the Demolition Derby, with the rodeo happening both Friday and Saturday night. “On Saturday night, one of the last of the Code Talkers will be honored and Coffey Anderson will be performing at the end of the rodeo that night as well.”
