The fourth annual Midsummer’s Day event is set to take place Aug. 11 in Winslow, presented by the Winslow Arts Council.
The day will begin at 8 a.m. with tours of home gardens as well as a scheduled tour of the garden at La Posada. According to recording secretary Roberta Cano, “There is so much going on that day, so this year we are integrating a passport system. Every time you visit an exhibit or any of the features of the day, you will receive a stamp, if you collect all of the stamps, you will be entered into a drawing for a raffle prize.”
In addition to the garden tours, there will be culturally related booths inside the Eagle Pavilion, located at 523 W. Third St. “We want to show how diverse our cultures are in Winslow. We hope to have food from different cultures, and exhibits,” Cano explained, adding that the council will also be inviting cultural dancers including folklorico and native representatives of many different tribes.
There will also be a craft bazaar inside the Hubbell Trading Post building at the same address. An art show titled “The Mother Road,” will be featured at Gemini Gallery, located at 200 N. Kinsley Ave. Also at the event will be live music and a cultural fashion show. A presentation on sheep herders will also be held at La Posada Hotel, located at 303 E. Second St. A full list of events and times is available at the Winslow Chamber of Commerce, located at the Hubbell Building.
Cano said, “We are still looking for vendors and crafters for the event, we are really pushing for those that demonstrate the diverse cultures in Winslow.” Space for vendors at Eagle Pavilion is free, however, a small fee will be charged for booths inside the Hubbell Building.
Admission to all of the events is free to the public and all ages are welcomed. For information on vending, contact Roberta Cano at City Hall, located at 21 N. Williamson Ave. or call (928) 289-2422.
