City of Winslow

The City of Winslow elected a new mayor and three new city council members last week. The unofficial results show that Samantha Crisp, Rickey Jackson and Robin Boyd will be seated on the council, and that Thomas ‘Tom’ McCauley won the election for mayor.

Winslow has 4,239 registered voters amongst its population of nearly 10,000. Approximately one third of those voters cast ballots in the mail in election. The total number of votes cast was 1,339.

Of the two candidates who ran for mayor, McCauley garnered 670 votes and former council member Harold Soehner brought in 641 votes. The races were close in the council bids as well. Jackson received the highest number of votes with 828, Crisp had 689 and Boyd had 623. Michelle Pennington garnered 613 and Barker had 413 votes. Sharon Oliva was also on the ballot but withdrew from the race prior to election day.

According to City Clerk Suzy Wetzel, both the Navajo County Board of Supervisors and the Winslow City Council must approve the final canvas of the ballots this week before they are declared official. The swearing in of the new council and mayor, as well as the appointment of vice mayor will take place at a special meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 5, in the council chambers located at 115 E. Second St.
