Obit Mullins Joy

Joy Oletta Mullins was born in Slaton, Texas, on Jan. 14, 1928. She entered Heaven’s Gate on Jan. 29, 2018. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 24, at the Desert View Cemetery in Winslow. A consummate mother and homemaker, Joy was an excellent cook (especially her cream pies) and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends. She was a social butterfly, enjoying people, parties and her sorority sisters in Alpha Eta. She was active in the Winslow Women’s Club, Red Hatters, The Genecas and the First Baptist Church. Joy loved working in her yard and was very creative with flower arrangements. She was so meticulous about her grass that she was accused of using finger nail scissors to make it perfectly cut, instead of using a lawn mower. When her children were young you could always find her working with PTA, Brownie Scouts, Girl Scouts or Cub Scouts to insure her children’s lives were full. She loved to sew and make clothes for her children and herself. One of her labors of love was her daughter’s wedding dress onto which she sewed 500 beads. She loved crafts and decorating her home; anything from tin can ornaments to Styrofoam southwestern adobe houses. She crocheted, knitted and loved baking and decorating cakes for parties. Joy is survived by her children and their spouses, Diana (Terry) DuBoise and Dan (Jean) Miller; seven loving grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; her sister, Bonnie Morrell; and many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Ruby Hodge; her sisters Wanda Russell and Audine Wyrick; and brother Donnie Bill Hodge. Greer’s Mortuary of Winslow is handling the arrangements.
