Deputies and correctional officers from the Navajo County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) filled the room as the Navajo County Board of Supervisors recognized Sheriff KC Clark and Constable Phyllis Romo at the meeting on April 24.
Clark was named the 2018 Sheriff of the Year by the WeTip Foundation. In his presentation of the award to Clark, Chairman Steve Williams said, “We appreciate you and your team because we know this is a team award. Sheriff Clark is the only sheriff in the nation to have ever won the award twice.”
In 2013, WeTip named Clark “Sheriff of the Year” for the first time and in 2015, they awarded the NCSO as the “Sheriff’s Office of the Year.”
In his acceptance of the recognition Clark said, “Our deputies go out every day and make this recognition possible. Without the work they do in our communities, this would have not been possible.”
Romo was recognized for receiving the “Service Above and Beyond” award from the National Constables and Marshals Association.
Supervisor Jason Whiting thanked Romo for all the work she had done and how she has represented Navajo County in receiving this award.
Romo shared that she has been a constable for 15 years and is on the Arizona Constables Association Board as well as a director for National Constables Marshall Association.
Supervisor Jessie Thompson said to Romo, “You are always kind and generous with your time and always available to communicate with people.”
Clark also requested that the board proclaim May 6-12 Correctional Officers Week in Navajo County to recognize the professionalism and bravery of the officers. “When you think of the many hats they have to wear and the bravery they demonstrate when they go into a problem with a large number of inmates, the job they do is incredible,” said Clark. The board unanimously approved the request.
