Navajo County Manager Glenn Kephart introduced new Public Works Director John Osgood to the Navajo County Board of Supervisors at the meeting on March 13. “I think people will find John responsive, understanding and a problem solver as well as a team builder and leader in the Public Works Department,” said Kephart.

Osgood shared that he worked for 28 years with the City of Tempe before taking on a new challenge in Florida for two years.

“As I went through the hiring process and saw where the county was headed, I felt like professionally and personally, this position is a great fit. The team is great and so far everyone is willing to roll up their sleeves and work together as a team,” said Osgood.

Osgood’s first presentation before the board was a request for a contract to supply various roadway materials to be awarded to Perkins Cinders, Inc., Hatch Construction and Paving, Inc., Brimhall Sand and Rock and Building Materials, Inc., Cholla Ready Mix, Inc. and Dyna Rock and Sand, Inc. The board unanimously approved the contract.

“This is a multi-award contract for roadway materials, which are purchased based on price, convenience, availability and/or quality,” said Osgood. By awarding the contract to all the bidders, the county has more road materials available in all locations. It was also noted that the unit prices of materials has decreased approximately four cents per ton, with the exception of concrete, which has had an average increase of $5.31 per cubic yard.
