Obit McKeever Helen

Helen Florine La Rue McKeever was born April 8, 1920, and passed away on Jan. 2, 2018. Services were held in Phoenix. Helen was unique right from the start of her life. She was born in Liberal, Kan., as an 18 ounce premature baby to George La Rue and Neva Daily La Rue. She was a miracle and blessing from the Lord and has been all her life. She had many problems in her life but she always kept a positive outlook. Helen grew up with her sister Barbara and went to grade school and three years of high school in Plains, Kan., until her family moved to Pueblo, Colo., where she graduated from Central High School in 1937. She moved to Phoenix in 1939 with her mother and sister. She worked for Phoenix Tile Company for 18 years from 1947 to 1958, then went to work for Phoenix Union High School System where she met the love of her life, Wayne McKeever. They married in 1964. They moved to Snowflake in December of 1972 and they joined the First Baptist Church of Snowflake. Wayne and Helen helped start the Silver Creek Senior Citizens Center at the Stinson home in Snowflake from 1980 to 1984. They also served as officers in the Cedar Hill Property Owners Association from July 1982 to June 1983. She served as a deacon’s wife for the First Baptist Church from 1979 to 1990. Helen moved to the Baptist Village (now named Lifestream Complete Senior Living) in June of 1996 to continue her life making friends and loving the Lord. She worked with the Volunteer Auxiliary at Baptist Village for 15 years. Her husband Wayne passed away in 1993; brother-in-law Joe in 1986; and her sister Barbara passed away in 2010. They are all buried at Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery in Phoenix. She is survived by two stepchildren, a few cousins and many friends that loved her dearly. She will be missed and remembered always. Helen was truly a faithful woman.
