The Navajo County Community College Governing Board met March 21 and discussed the process that will be followed in selecting the next president of Northland Pioneer College due to the retirement of Dr. Jeanne Swarthout, effective the end of June 2018.
Board member James Matteson broached the subject, suggesting that the board take action on a procedure to ensure plenty of time to make the selection.
After some discussion, the board determined that a committee consisting of faculty, staff, a Joint Technical Education District supervisor, K-12 superintendent, local leadership representatives, representatives from the tribal communities and NPC students would be created in order to begin the vetting process of applicants.
Those applicants will likely be provided by a firm that specializes in national advertising for this type of position, and which will weed out applicants that do not meet the necessary criteria before forwarding applicants to the committee.
The governing board will receive the committee’s recommendations, then make a final selection.
The board voted to expend up to $110,000 to hire a firm for the process, as well as to place an advertisement in local newspapers to provide the opportunity for the public to volunteer to take part on the committee.
