The Lady Wildcats of Joseph City won their opening 1A Central Region tournament game last Thursday, but their season came to close with a loss in Saturday’s match-up with rival Mogollon.

Facing Mayer on Thursday, the Cats jumped out to a 12-3 first period lead and despite getting outscored in the second, still held a seven-point halftime edge. In the third that margin doubled, then in the fourth Joseph City opened the game up and cruised to the 43-22 win.

Amanda Baldwin paced the Wildcats with 16 points. Arianna Kissling added 5; Alicia Chavez, Morgan Johnson and Callie Pugh, 4 each; Mary Larsen, 3; and Kayle Gardner, 2.

Chavez led the team in rebounding with 13. Baldwin pulled down nine and Larsen had seven. Baldwin was just one rebound shy of a triple double with 16 points, nine boards and 11 steals.

On Saturday night things didn’t go quite as well for the team as the season was cut short by Mogollon’s Lady Mustangs, who defeated the Wildcats 56-47, a huge improvement over their two previous meetings during the regular season.

Joseph City finished the season with an overall mark of 13-14, but closed out by winning six of their last eight ball games, which is something to build on for next season.
