Kristoffer Neff sets his latest LDS fiction novel, Moroni’s Promise, published by Walnut Springs Press, in very familiar surroundings, but in a vastly different time.

In the story, a 21-year-old Moroni “Ronnie” Clah, is already feeling very sorry for himself as he struggles to deal with the death of his parents when his sister is killed in a drive-by in Los Angeles.

An attempt to avenge his sister’s death goes wrong and he finds himself fleeing California for Arizona. As he drives out of Flagstaff he finds his truck suddenly engulfed in water and awakes in the year 400 AD, where he is rescued by a Lamanite named Zelf. He is taken to Walnut Canyon at a time when it was settled and there he experiences things that drastically change his outlook on life.

In the end, “He learns that everyone has trials in life and he’s not alone. He learns to make the best with what he has,” said Neff.

As the owner of Muffler Masters in Taylor, Neff writes in his spare time while continuing his auto and business work. His previous works include No Place to Hide (2010), a military thriller, and Home of the Brave (2015), which follows two orphans on the run.

Neff and another local author, Brian Willis, who’s book Airlis came out in early December, will be signing books from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11, at Shevell’s LDS Bookstore, located at 30 E. Third St. South in Snowflake.
