Daniel Johnson

Daniel Ray Johnson, 64, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2016, at his home in Winslow surrounded by his loved ones. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Winslow, with a reception following. “Papa Dan” was born Sept. 6, 1952, in Klamath Falls, Ore., to Robert and June Johnson. He was a 1970 graduate of Wasco County High School and later attended Central Oregon Community College in Bend, Ore. Throughout his life he was a very hard worker, and worked as a hay bailer, sheep ranch hand, steel mill worker, certified deep sea diver and logger, and retired as a hazardous material truck driver. There was not a career in his life that he did not do to the fullest. His careers enabled him to travel and reside in many states, including Washington, Louisiana, Alaska and Virginia. He settled in Winslow, where he met the love of his life, Lillian Monroe. He later married her on Sept. 1, 2012, at the All Saints Episcopal Church in Farmington, N.M. Dan displayed a tremendous amount of love for his wife, kids and family, taking time to watch his grandchildren play sports, being around his family, and always making sure his family was safe and well supported. Papa Dan always had the amazing ability to see the good in every situation, an attribute he carried up until the time of his passing. His hobbies included fishing, politics, tinkering, going to the “honky tonk” and, most of all, being a papa. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and June Johnson; and his nephew, Steven Johnson. Survivors include his wife, Lillian Monroe; his stepson, Darrell (Kristy) Monroe; his grandchildren, Marcus Monroe, Daylan Jones, Zoe Monroe, Hannah Monroe and Myron Monroe; his siblings, Robert C. (Lois) Johnson, William C. (Maria) Johnson and Ruth (Gerard) Welch; numerous cousins; his beloved family and friends; and seven ankle biters (his dogs). Greer’s Mortuary of Winslow was in charge of the arrangements.
