This weekend offers a fantastic way to finish up the summer with the annual Standin’ On The Corner festival in Winslow. This event has grown over the past 18 years to become a highly anticipated event in Northeastern Arizona.
The good times begin at 12 noon on Friday, Sept. 23, at the corner of Second Street and Kinsley Avenue with the dedication of a new bronze statue in the likeness of Eagles founder Glen Frey who co-wrote the hit song Take It Easy that put Winslow on the map.
The festival will continue on through Saturday at the Eagle Pavilion beginning with live music entertainment provided by Coyote Moon who will perform Western and Mexican music from 3 to 6 p.m. Triple Play will play straight ahead rock and roll from 6 to 9 p.m., followed by Rhythm Edition who will close out the evening with soul, R&B and some old school funk from 9-11 p.m.
On Saturday, the High Desert Dance Academy will perform from 9 to 10 a.m., with Ballet Folklorico Mexican Dance Group performing from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by Higeria, a local alternative music band taking the stage from 1 to 3 p.m.
The Standin’ on the Corner auction will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. and will feature lots of great items up for auction, including signed Eagles memorabilia.
Local music legend and Arizona Blues Hall of Fame member Tommy Dukes will be performing from 5 to 7 p.m. with Ty One On taking the stage with country rock from 7 to 9 p.m.
The weekend wouldn’t be complete without Eagles music and One of These Nights, an Eagles tribute band, will fill the bill performing from 9 to 11 p.m. to wrap up the festival.
Added to the terrific music will be food, vendors, a beer garden, a horseshoes tournament and much more. The cost for admission is just $5 with kids 12 and under free.
