By Naomi Hatch Navajo County Board of Supervisors Chairman Jason Whiting, Graham County Board of Supervisors Chairman Jim Palmer and Assistant Navajo County Manager Paul Watson met with Congresswoman Ann Kirkpatrick, Senator Jeff Flake, Senator John McCain, Congressman Paul Gosar’s staff and U.S. Forest Service Chief Tom Tidwell last week in Washington, D.C. “We have forest industries that are currently out of wood,” was the message the chairmen carried, said Whiting, adding that they offered solutions and a letter that outlined those solutions. “We also discussed the wolf issue,” said Whiting, noting that Senator Flake mentioned that they have taken action to request the wolf be delisted from the Endangered Species Act, and turn over control to the states. “We also took the time to thank them for their support and help on the Apache Railroad, and to let them know the successful conclusion to that effort,” said Whiting. He mentioned to them that there is an industry that is very close to announcing that it is coming to Snowflake because of the railroad.
