An amendment to a memorandum of understanding with the Northern Arizona Council of Governments (NACOG) for a sign inventory project was approved by the Taylor Town Council Feb. 3.
The agreement covering the federally funded project to replace signs around communities to bring them up to the new reflective federal standards was originally approved in June 2013. The purpose of the project is to reduce fatalities and serious injuries on public roads.
Town Manager Gus Lundberg explained that the money is available through NACOG, but the agreement needed to be amended to give NACOG officials permission that will assure them that they can work within the town rights-of-way.
“Originally, we were going to have the agency’s employees install the signs, and part of this amendment is to contract it out,” said Public Works Director Jeremy Peters. “This gives them (NACOG) permission to be out in our rights-of-way.”
Vice Mayor Shawn Palmer expressed concern that the sign for Paper Mill road coming from Heber does not give enough warning to react.
Lundberg explained that is a separate issue, but “We can definitely pursue that discussion.”
