Stanley McKee rode off into the morning on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014, with friends and family close to him in person or spirit. A memorial service was held Oct. 7 at the Winslow Elks Auditorium. He was born on Sept. 27, 1934, in Ft. Sumner, N.M. Early in his life the family moved to Belen, N.M., where he grew up, attended school, played football, hunted, fished and ran amuck. Stanley met the love of his life, Bobbie Shue, and they were married on July 7, 1955. His family was completed on Dec. 8, 1956, when their daughter Kim was born. He worked for the Santa Fe Railroad and held many different positions during his 42 years, retiring from BNSF in 1995. As part of the job with the railroad, Stanley and Bobbie moved to Winslow, where he enjoyed the last years of his life. Stanley loved the outdoors and all that it offered from yard work to hunting, fishing, camping, golfing, cattle roundups, taking a drive to nowhere and back, or just sitting and enjoying the day. He was a lifetime member of the Elks and dedicated tons of hours working on the many charities. His passion was the Elks Christmas baskets project. He loved collecting all the items needed to build them and the smiles on the faces of the families he delivered to. Survivors include his daughter Kim (David), their three children, Rosalyn (Andrew), Steven and Brandon; three great-grandchildren, Lauren, Andrew Jr. and Layla; his companion of nine years, Jodie Fearing; two siblings, Bob (Lynn) McKee and Sarah (Jim) Danner; and many nieces and nephews, as well as great friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie; his parents; his grandparents; and other loving family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the charity of choice in Stanley’s name, or to Hospice Compassus, 1000 N. Humphreys St., Ste. 220, Flagstaff, Ariz. 86001, or Elks Lodge No. 536 Christmas Baskets, c/o Darcey McKee, 407 W. Third St., Winslow, Ariz. 86047. Greer’s Mortuary of Winslow was in charge of the arrangements.
