Sparks fly as metal artisan John Suttman welds the custom steel railing for the viewing platform surrounding the Santa Fe Super Chief “Pleasure Dome” in Winslow. The new railing will replace the chain-link fence and allow visitors to step up close to the historic railcar while the interior gets renovated. The train is one of six streamlined dome cars built by Pullman in 1950 for the Santa Fe Railway’s luxury Super Chief, which passed through the Painted Desert from 1937 to 1971. The Super Chief can be seen next to the La Posada Hotel, located at 303 E. 2nd St.
