Dora Lucero

Dora Lucero of Winslow, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2023. She was 100 years old. Dora, one of six children, was born July 26, 1923, in Flagstaff, to Albino Chavez and Francesca Saiz Chavez. On Jan. 27, 1951, she married Fidel Lucero. They were married until his death in 2015. They raised four sons together. They lived in Alameda, N.M., Holbrook, and, since 1968, in Winslow.

She and Fidel were business owners in Winslow and she still went to work every day to help in the store well into her 90’s. When she wasn’t working Dora loved to go to the casinos. She always won. She loved her granddaughters and great-grandchildren. In later years, since they live elsewhere, she always asked about them and what they were doing.

Dora is survived by her four sons, Frank (Janice) Lucero, Danny (Jeanette) Lucero, Leslie Lucero and Leonard Lucero (Linda Begay); two granddaughters, Christie Lucero McKean and Elizabeth Lucero; and six great-grandchildren, Cole, Reid, Afton and Alice McKean, and Olivea and Carter Wilcox.

Father Cyprian Okere will conduct graveside services and burial at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 25, at the Holbrook Cemetery.
